Coronavirus Update: 3/13/20

Dear CFC Family,

It seems that the speed of updates these days knows no bounds. While we stand by what we issued previously, we want to offer a little more clarity on what we are going to do moving forward as a church. At least, with as much clarity as we can. We have observed what the local authorities are advising, and will continue to monitor that. The school district has closed all facilities through Sunday, March 22. In light of those developments, here is our plan for this week and the immediate future:

We will not be able to gather at the school for the next two weeks at least. The elders will be working on solutions to equip our people to be mutually encouraged, worship the Lord, gather for prayer and be nourished by the teaching of the Word. What we are going to try is basically creating house churches where people will gather to pray, encourage each other, maybe sing, etc. Then I will start a webcast at 11:00 am to teach for about 30 minutes. We will send out more information on this as soon as we build the structure.

One thing we encourage you to do this Sunday is have an extended prayer time for this situation. Here is a guide issued by the Southern Baptist Convention I found helpful. Please use this outline even if you don’t attend.

Day of Prayer for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Global Pandemic

Sunday, March 15, 2020

In light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, we are asking all Southern Baptists and our 47,500+ churches of the Southern Baptist Convention to commit to a dedicated time of prayer this Sunday, March 15, 2020, to seek the Lord in unity about these matters:

  1. Ask God, in His mercy, to stop this pandemic and save lives -- not only in our communities but around the world, particularly in places that are unequipped medically to deal with the virus. (Isaiah 59:1-2)

  1. Pray for President Donald Trump and other government leaders -- international, federal, state, and local -- to have the wisdom to direct us in the best courses of action for prevention and care. (Romans 13:1–4)

  1. Scripture says: Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts. Pray that the Lord will give us wisdom in this moment of fear as the foundations of what we know are shaken, that others would realize how fragile life is and how real eternity is, and they would see their need to turn to God. (Psalm 90:12)

  1. Ask God to protect our missionaries and their families around the globe, using this global crisis to advance His Good News to the whole world. (Mark 16:15)

If you are at all sick or compromised, please do not take the risk to attend these small groups. You can still find the webcast. If it seems the lock down will be long-term, we will address other options then. We leave discipleship meetings up to the leaders about whether they will continue.

Please be patient with us as we seek to lead through this challenging time. We will seek to minister in the name of Jesus to all who God lays before us, so let us know if you or a neighbor needs some service. We will also need some to be the hands and feet as well.

Let’s make a great impact for our community to the glory of God.
